Jan Hovers played the bass guitar in the Mal Evans Memorial Band as well as in Macca. From the age of 18 he was active in numerous bands with various styles: from New Wave to Symphonic rock, from ska to soul, from country to rock&roll. But whatever music this self-taught musician has faced, the sound of the Beatles remained his inspiration throughout. In 2001 Jan met Kris in the band of singer/songwriter of Dalal Marouf and together they later became part of Macca where he subsequently befriended the members of the Mal Evans Memorial band with whom he experienced all kinds of Beatle adventures. He gratefully interprets the bass lines of master Paul McCartney.
Jan and The Beatles
Borne: 3 octobre 1958 Amsterdam
Lives in: Amsterdam
First heard The Beatles: as a toddler!
I remember watching TV and seeing people swimming behind their boat in the Amsterdam canals. Later I had a Beatle jacket (no colar) when I was in my 2nd class at primary school and that my elder sister let me play her singles if I’d been a good boy.
Fave album: Revolver (and probably Abbey Road next week)
Fave song: ‘Penny Lane’
Fave Beatle: well, they’re all special in their own way but, in order they are George, Paul, John and last but not least Ringo
Fave solo album: Ram
Fave solo song: ex aequo ‘Beautiful Night’ and ‘Daytime Nightime Suffering’
Fave TV/Video moment: From the ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ movie. George is leaning against his Vox amp which nearly falls over. It makes me laugh everytime I see it.
Fave Beatle moment: Seeing Macca perform in Las Vegas on april 6th 2002. Goose bumps, feeling feverish, ecstatic.
Worst: Phil Spector’s over the top production of various Beatle recordings. Take ‘All Things Must Pass’ for instance. Many of the songs deserved a fresh, poppier production.
Dream: I dream of spending an evening with George, enjoying his intelligence, wit and humour.
Other bands/artists:
